SPORTS AND OUTDOOR EDUCATION

Facilities for Sports and Outdoor Education subjects are many and varied at St Joseph's College.  Students have a wide variety of Curriculum choices which necessitate facilities to cater to these needs.

The Mercy Campus has the largest Rock Climbing wall outside of metropolitan Melbourne, utilisied for student use in PE and Outdoor Education.

A state-of-the-art Gym in the Undercroft area of the Mercy Campus has some of the most up-to-date gym equipment on the market.  Students and staff all use this facility on a regular basis.  For VET Fitness, the Gym is the classroom of choice.

Both the Enright and Mercy Campus have access to over 4 acres of ovals, from the original Cleadon oval at the Enright Campus, to the Council ovals surrounding the Mercy Campus which are put to use for many sporting activities.

The Stadium at the Mercy Campus has two purpose built multi-purpose courts, as well as a 1000 seat stadium.  The Enright campus also has outdoor basketball courts and cricket nets.

The Sacred Heart Parish Hall is often used during inclement weather for table tennis and other low impact sports.

Swimming is not forgotten at St Joseph's College.  We are lucky enough to be situated only 700m from Mildura Waves - which has a 25m heated indoor pool, a wave pool and outside 50m Olympic Swimming Pool.

The environment is the classroom for Outdoor Education.  Adjacent to the general classroom work students undertake, they also participate in outdoor activities at Kings Billabong, Hattah National Park, The Grampians, Mount Hotham and Arapiles.
HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION:
In addition to the Inter-house carnivals of swimming, athletics and cross-country running, we offer a variety of team and individual sports.  Students have the opportunity to compete at local level in the Sunraysia Secondary School Sports Association (SSSSA).  If they are successful at this level, they are invited to compete in the Northern Zone finals.  Success at this level paves the way to State finals, where the top teams or individuals from across Victoria compete.

The Sports Program consists of three levels of competition:
  • District Level – School Sport Victoria Sunraysia (SSVS) – schools in Mildura.
  • Regional Level – School Sport Victoria Loddon Mallee Region (LMR) – schools down to Bendigo across to Shepparton,
  • State Level – SSV State competitions these are usually held in Melbourne.
Our sporting teams are divided into age groups and you can only participate in your Division regardless of your age.
