The College offers many opportunities for students to enjoy and to extend their capabilities. Students who can present a documented account of their extra curricular activities at school will benefit on leaving school.

Overnight excursions are often subject based at the senior level; such as Careers Expo (Melbourne), VCAL Melbourne experience, AIS Melbourne, Art and Visual Communication, Drama, Textiles, Dance and Music, Mt Bogong & Outdoor Education; which includes Victor Harbour, Walpolla Island and White Water Rafting. Listed below are some of the major camps effecting students at the College.
Year 8 Camp: (Grampians)
The Year 8 Camp is held at Halls Gap in the Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park during Term 2. The camp focuses on the development of intra and interpersonal relationships amongst students, teamwork, goal setting, understanding personal capabilities as well as overcoming perceived obstacles. The camp has a strong Outdoor Education focus with most activities run by professional companies based in the Grampians.

Year 9: Choice Week (Mildura)
Each year St Joseph’s College provides the opportunity for students in Year 9 to participate in our annual Choice Week Program. The focus of the program is “Our Future”. Students select and participate in a range of VET course Tasters including: Hair, Hospitality, Beauty, Fitness, Automotive, Horticulture and Music. We have a range of guest speakers present on relevant topics including men’s & women’s health, positive relationships, VCAL, Cyber Safety, Study Skills and Stress Management. Students also participate in a day of team building and problem solving at Kings Billabong. The aim of the program is to assist and prompt students to think about their future and the skills and assistance they may require to achieve these goals.

Year 10 Snow (Perisher)
The Snow Camp will be based at Berridale and Mount Perisher. It will introduce the students to downhill skiing or snowboarding.  Students will participate in 4.5 hours of ski / snowboard lessons per day and spend the rest of the day practicing their skills on designated runs supervised by teachers.  

The VCE VET / VCAL Trip (Melbourne)
This is an annual camp, which involves both the Year 11 and Year 12 VCAL students.
It is a week (Monday to Friday) in Melbourne. The camp is designed to cover knowledge and skills from all VCAL subject areas. We visit a range of organisations that assist with this. One major feature of the camp is the fact that all travel within Melbourne is done using public transport. By the end of the camp all students are expected to be familiar with the use of trams and trains and be able to successfully navigate their way around the city.
The VCE Arts Trip (Melbourne)
The VCE Arts Trip is for students in Unit 3 Art, Studio Arts, Drama, Theatre Studies, Music and Visual Communication & Design. The week long trip to Melbourne covers the students requirements of the VCE course and is compulsory for those studying these subjects to attend, so that specific Outcomes and prescribed Plays (Drama / Theatre Studies) can be met. It provides students with the opportunity to attend Top Arts and Top Designs, gallery visits and Professional Practice workshops.

VCE Product Design and Technology Textiles Trip (Melbourne)
The Product Design & Technology Trip is an important and valuable five days for students studying Textiles. Information received and study completed during this time relates directly to Unit 3 Outcome 2 and 3 and provides inspiration for Unit 3 & 4 folio research.
Specifics of this study tour include:
  • TOP DESIGNS: Designer forum with state reviewer and exhibition showcasing the best student works of the previous year.
  • Textile industry visits
  • University visits
  • Gallery visits

VCE PE TRIP (Melbourne)
As part of the Unit 3/4 VCE Physical Education class, students are required to attend a 5 day/4 night camp with Exercise Research Australia in Melbourne. The students will be involved in both practical and theoretical sessions which directly relate to the course material being studied this year. The camp has been held every year and has proven to be very successful in terms of student learning. The level of accommodation is excellent and the range of activities is extensive.

Year 12: Retreat (Anglesea)
The Year 12 Retreat is the final week of Term 2 of each Year and is situated in Anglesea. These Retreat Days provide students with the opportunity to take time out from their formal academic education and reflect on the key values of the Catholic Mercy tradition, the values of the College and their own current values in regard to a range of relationships and issues. The Retreat is an opportunity to strengthen the sense of community within the Year 12 group and ensure that the rest of their College life is a time of mutual support and respect for each other.

The Year 12 Retreat involves personal challenges, team building and recreational activities such as learning to surf or horse ride, completing a high ropes course, circuit initiatives, riding mountain bikes, bush and beach walking. The Year 12 Students are provided with an opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding of the Christian vision of social justice and the challenge this brings to us as a community and as individuals. They are encourage to further develop their own spirituality and relationship with God through prayer, group liturgies, small group sharing and beach reflections sessions.
