Years 7 and 8

The aim is to develop the student's ability to listen, reason, speak, read and write with clarity, expression and confidence for a range of purposes and audiences. This is achieved through using a wide range of materials.

Students experiment with different writing styles, using their own experiences and the examples of other writers. They are encouraged to use a writing journal and to read widely from a range of fiction and some non-fiction material. Each semester, various texts will be studied to introduce students to plot, character and theme. These include novels, poetry, short stories and film. Everyday texts such as advertisements, signs and newspapers will also be used.  Students will be encouraged to speak confidently and fluently through a variety of oral activities.
