The explicit teaching of good thinking habits is currently encouraged across the curriculum and across year levels, and is part of the requirements mandated by the Victorian Essential Learning Standards.
In response to this St Joseph's College has begun to create a culture of learning that focuses on the way we think.
- Staff and students alike are learning about thinking skills and how we can improve our learning by deepening our understanding of how we think.
- We have commenced a program with yr 7 students that encourages them to recognise and develop an understanding ‘Habits of Mind' which are essentially the thinking skills we engage in when solving problems.
- As these students progress through year levels further programs to develop good thinking habits will be developed to meet the vision that all students will have a fully developed understanding of the way they think and can challenge themselves in areas they need to improve.
- The College will also be once again participating in the ‘Tournament of Minds' competition where a team of students from yr 7-10 are faced with a challenging problem they need to solve in a creative and original way. This program encourages excellence in good thinking skills.
