Josh Barila (Y12) and Eli Cummins (Y7) proved that stars shine brightest in water at the South Australian Country Swimming Championships in early January.

Eli netted 4 medals in the pool: 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze. A fantastic result for this young swimmer.

Josh won a total of 15 medals: 9 Gold, 2 Silver, 4 Bronze, swam the fastest breaststroke, earned the most points (16-18 male category), and scored in the top 3 out of over 500 swimmers.

In Josh’s successful career, he has mentored younger swimmers, captained the Victorian School Swimming Team, and was ‘Sportsman of the Meet’ at the 2018 state championships.

He hopes to take gold again as Young Volunteer of the Year at the 2018 Victorian Sport Awards for his work with the Mildura Swimming Club.

Already a winner and a role model for his fellow students, Josh’s hard work and dedication has led to excellence in the pool and in the classroom.

St Joseph’s College heartily congratulates Josh on his past wins and wishes him the best of luck at the awards on 20 February.
