VET & VCE VM Information Session
It may seem too early to mention it, but 2023 is already shaping up to be an exciting year, especially for students starting Year 11. The new Victorian Certificate of Education Vocational Major (VCE VM) will replace VCAL and give students more flexibility and options to learn the skills they need to prepare for rewarding careers.
The college held a special information session on the evening of Tuesday 8 November for students who plan to pursue the VCE VM and/or undertake Vocational Education and Training (VET) in 2023. Our Head of VCE/VET/VCAL, Mr Mel Ficarra, along with other staff members experienced in VET, detailed the expectations associated with vocational training pathways and informed students and their parents about several important topics related to vocational studies, including:
- Applied Learning within the VCE VM
- An overview of the college’s VET offerings
- The importance of Structured Workplace Learning (SWL)
- The new SWL process for 2023
- Support available for students undertaking VET
- The link between VET courses and employment
The evening gave the first crop of VCE VM students exactly what they needed to start thinking about the next step in their education. I’m sure they are quite keen to delve into the world of applied learning now that they know more of what is to come.
Remembrance Day
Today the college observed Remembrance Day in an assembly at the Sacred Heart Church. More than a century after the WWI armistice, events in Europe seem frighteningly reminiscent of the World Wars. Joining in a moment’s silence on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month reminds us that humankind must continue to work towards peace. —Lest we forget.
God bless.
