After a term filled with fantastic events, exciting school sport, and plenty of excellence to celebrate, the college enjoyed a relatively quiet week before the autumn school holidays.

Soccer Stars

Congratulations to college students Lee-Min Sheehan, George Miller, Angus Breeze, Harry Stanger, and Johan Siju. This fantastic group of athletes travelled to Bendigo last weekend to play representative soccer for Sunraysia and won the Under 14 Boys Championship. Even though the boys did not wear St Joseph’s College uniforms, their sportsmanship and conduct reflect positively on our community. Well done.

You can see the boys’ smiling faces, as well as a selection of Harmony Day moments, in the photos attached to this blog post.

Easter

We concluded our Easter observance with festive fun and a solemn observance. On Wednesday 27 March, the winners of the Easter Raffle were drawn. Congratulations to everyone who picked up a prize. The proceeds of all raffle ticket sales will go towards Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion, supporting initiatives to benefit marginalised communities around the world.

The college met in the Sacred Heart Church for our annual Passion Liturgy yesterday, Thursday 28 March. Although Easter in modern times has a playful side involving Easter egg hunts and confectionary, we as Catholics must always remember the Christ’s love and sacrifice because these things continue to define Christianity, the Catholic Church, and, in a sense, the world.

I wish you and your family a happy and blessed Easter.

Farewell & Thank You

This is also my final week as Principal of St Joseph’s College. It has been a pleasure to serve this exceptional learning community for over eight years.

As I bid farewell, I find myself reflecting on the wonderful journey we have shared over the past eight years. Together, we have achieved remarkable milestones, each one a testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence and inclusivity.

From the inception of innovative learning and teaching programs to the establishment of the Rainbow Alliance, our collective efforts have transformed our college into a beacon of diversity and academic prowess.

Undoubtedly, the years 2020 and 2021 presented unprecedented challenges, yet in the face of adversity, we rose resiliently. Through remote learning initiatives, community support endeavours, and meticulous strategic planning, we not only persevered but emerged stronger than ever before.

Our steadfast dedication to student wellbeing and the promotion of learning diversity has fostered an environment where every individual feels valued and empowered. Indeed, the remarkable increase in enrolments in 2024 stands as a testament to our continuous commitment to growth and progress within our beloved Mercy Community.

As I embark on the next chapter of my journey, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for your unwavering support, dedication, and shared moments that have contributed to our collective legacy.

With warmest regards and every blessing for the future.

God Bless,

Mrs Marg Blythman
