A positive relationship between school and home gives students the best chance of achieving high learning outcomes. At St Joseph’s College, we involve parents and caregivers in their child’s education because we know the value of their contribution to overall student success.

This past Tuesday, 7 May, the college held Parent, Student and Teacher Conferences from 11:00am to 7:00pm at the Enright Campus. In total, more than one thousand appointments were held over the eight hour period. This is a great result, and I thank all our college families and students who participated in these vital meetings.

This morning, Friday 10 May, we held our annual Mother’s Day Breakfast at the Holland Room in the Mercy Campus. It is such a pleasure to treat the special women in our students’ lives, including mothers, grandmothers, aunties, and more. Our special guest, actor, comedian, and author Jean Kittson AM entertained everyone with her sharp wit and hilarious anecdotes. And, supervised by their teacher, our Certificate II Cooking students nourished us all with the delicious spread they prepared. It was a wonderful morning. Ms Kittson also delivered a presentation to the Year 11 cohort following the event. Look for photos on next week’s blog and in Thursday’s Community newsletter, as well as on our Instagram account.

Our Year 8 cohort will head to the Grampians for their camp next Monday 13 May. Senior students and alumni regularly reminisce fondly over their experiences on this particular camp. There is nothing like working and learning together in the great outdoors in one of the most stunning locations in Victoria. Stay tuned for more on this and other events, including our IDAHOBIT celebrations, in next week’s blog.

Let me take this opportunity to wish a very happy Mother’s Day to the motherly figures in all the families that make up our college community. We are truly blessed to receive your love.

To those who feel acute loss at this time of year, I hope that reflecting on cherished memories will give you comfort.

In the spirit of hope and faith,

Mr Greg Kluske
College Principal
