Following the Kings Birthday long weekend, students returned to campus energised and eager for the final three weeks of Term 2.

Interschool Football

Our female Intermediate and Junior footballers represented the college in the Sunraysia Interschool Football Division Finals on 11 June. Both teams played well despite the cold and wet wintry conditions. The unstoppable Intermediate Girls (pictured below) triumphed, surging through the competition undefeated. Their next stop is the Loddon-Mallee Regional Tournament at Swan Hill on 31 July. Though the season ended for our Junior Girls squad, they played excellent football and made the college proud.

True Blue Recycling

The SRC also presented their new recycling initiative, which involves Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme (CDS Vic). The SRC have placed six blue bins on our campuses – five at Enright and one at Mercy – to collect aluminium and steel cans, plastic bottles, and paperboard cartons that can be exchanged for 10 cents each at one of four depots across Mildura. All funds collected from the proceeds of this initiative will go towards future SRC projects at the college. I congratulate and applaud these students on devising a simple yet effective way our community can contribute to greater sustainability in Sunraysia while improving our college.

Trade Taste Test

Today, Friday 14 June, students in Years 9 and 10 interested in Hospitality, Cookery, Beauty, and Hairdressing attended the Riverside Trade Training Centre’s (RTTC) Taster Day at the Mercy Campus to explore the facilities and learn more about the RTTC’s 2025 course offerings. Vocational Education and Training offers students countless possibilities to tailor a course of study suited to their interests and abilities. I commend those young people who took the time to investigate how these trades can lead them to fulfilling careers.

Bright Sparks

Local school students in Grades 5 and 6 who have participated in our afterschool Bright Sparks program have enjoyed spending time in the Food Technology kitchen this term. From baking biscuits to making pizzas, they have worked together and learned fun culinary skills. Next week, aspiring young bakers will make marvellous muffins. Bookings are still available for this final Term 2 session on Wednesday 19 June. Learn more here.

Looking Ahead

Next week, certain students in Year 11 and all Year 12 students will complete the VCAA General Achievement Test (GAT). Then, in the final week of term, the Year 9, Year 10, and Year 11 cohorts will focus on mid-year exams while the Class of 2024 travels to Anglesea for their Retreat.

In the spirit of hope and faith,

Mr Greg Kluske
