Recognising Excellence
The College celebrated student achievement of all kinds at our latest Assembly on Thursday 11 June. I first announced the recipients of this term’s Principal’s Awards. Next, we awarded badges our Year 8 Mercy Captains followed by badges and certificates to the latest Virtue Conquers recipients.
Crowning our latest Unsung Hero was next on the agenda. I congratulate Xavier Nicolas on this fantastic award. Xavier came to the College on a Home Study Day to personally farewell crossing supervisor Judy Malone on her final day prior to retirement. He even treated her to breakfast. Read more about Judy and her dedication to the students of St Joseph’s College in Issue 3 of Community.
Because our students do so many exceptional things in their off-campus hours, this Assembly included a ‘Local Legends’ segment. We honoured students for achievements of all kinds, including senior sporting debuts, personal bests, performing arts endeavours, and community service.
Lastly, students who displayed excellent skills and sportsmanship during a handful of interschool sport competitions received their well-deserved medals.
Congratulations to all of our high achievers. You will find a list of all students who received awards at the end of this post.
General Achievement Test
Congratulations to all students who completed the General Achievement Test (GAT) this past Tuesday 16 June. All students who are currently studying a VCE or VCE VM Unit 3 or 4 took this standardised exam. They will receive a statement of their results as part of their overall results package in December.
Grade 6 Visit
While senior students were sitting the GAT, 248 Grade 6 students from local primary schools visited the Enright Campus for the day. In nine groups, they explored Mathematics, Science, Humanities, English, and PE. They also enjoyed a free barbecue lunch. I thank the parents of these future St Joseph’s College students for allowing us to host them for the day and show them what high school has in store next year.
Mercy Campus Open Evening
Tuesday was certainly a busy day for everyone at the College. More than 300 people attended the Mercy Campus Open Evening to check out the current facilities and get a sneak peek at our planned upgrades. The event was a resounding success. Stay tuned for architectural renderings of the revitalised Mercy Junior Campus in the next issue of Community, published on Thursday 25 June.
Week 10
The Class of 2026 will travel to Anglesea on their Retreat next week. I know they will have a marvellous time near the ocean while they celebrate faith during this College rite of passage.
Back in Mildura, students in Years 9 to 11 will sit mid-year exams. I wish them all a successful revision over the weekend and the best of luck next week.
School holidays are at hand. The final day of Term 2 is Friday 26 June. Students will have an early dismissal at 14:30 on that day.
Come back to the blog next week for moments from the Staff vs Students Soccer Match and the College’s support of HeadSpace Mildura during the Push-Up Challenge.
In the spirit of hope and faith,
Mr Greg Kluske
