Term 3 Assembly

The timing of camps for Years 11, 9, and 7 at the end of the term, as well as the College’s 120 anniversary celebrations during Mercy Week, meant that we needed to bring forward the Term 3 Assembly.

On Thursday 30 July, we announced the recipients of the Principal’s Awards, Virtue Conquers Awards, and awards in sport. You can see a full list of names at the end of this post. Congratulations to them all for both achieving personal success and representing the Core Values of St Joseph’s College.

You may remember that we added a ‘Local Legends’ section to our Assemblies this year, in which we salute outstanding accomplishments outside of the College. Congratulations to these students on their exceptional accomplishments:

  • Sophie Lloyd, Iris Newton & Ella Adolph – Victorian Youth Parliament Team
  • William Siale – Lockedin Elite USA Basketball Tour
  • Ruby Curran – Senior Netball Debut
  • Darcy Collins – Senior Football Debut
  • Poppy Wilkes & Archie Wilkes – Achievements in Volleyball
  • Asher Brigante – National Party of Victoria Scholarship (Kokoda Trail)

If you read my posts for Week 1 and Week 2, you may recall that Douw Grobler, one of our teachers, has a daughter who recently spent time in hospital as a result of a collapsed lung. The outstanding community support for a GoFundMe campaign to help the family pay for medical treatment continues to inspire.

With that in mind, it made sense that this term’s Unsung Hero award was given to the St Joseph’s College community of staff, students and families.

As I write this, more than $23,000 has been raised. Donations can still be made here. The campaign is close to reaching its goal of raising $30,000.00 for the family, who are not eligible for Medicare.

Human Powered Vehicle Squad

Our racers will travel to Tailem Bend today to participate in the 8-hour race on Saturday 1 August. I wish them safe travels and success on the track. Stay tuned for news from this weekend in the next blog post and via the College’s Instagram account.

In the spirit of hope and faith,

Mr Greg Kluske
College Principal
