Year 7 in Victor Harbor
The departure of two year level camps meant that things felt a bit different at the College in Week 9. On Monday morning, the Year 7 cohort arrived excited and ready to make the journey for their camp in Victor Harbor. (While they were away, Year 8 students and teachers relocated to the Enright Campus.)
After four fun-filled days kayaking, bushwalking, boogie boarding, and more, the Year 7 students returned home on Thursday 10 September. I hope they enjoyed their first high school camp and look forward to spending time in the Grampians next year.
Year 9 On The Road
The majority of the Year 9 cohort left on their Central Australia Camp early on Thursday. Some students will meet the camp in Alice Springs after they participate in local sporting events this weekend.
The cohort will stay on camp next week and return to Mildura in the afternoon on Friday 18 September, the final day of Term 3. I wish them continued safe travels and memorable experiences as they experience the stunning landscapes of the Red Centre and learn about some of the Indigenous cultures connected to those lands.
Footy Colours Day
The Student Representative Council (SRC) collected $819.15 in donations on 1 September as part of this year’s Footy Colours Day. All donations will be given to the Grobler family to help with their medical expenses. Thanks to everyone who got into the spirit of the day to raise funds for these members of our community.
On the same day, the Year 12 cohort and College staff faced off in our annual Staff vs Students Soccer Match, which we had to reschedule due to bad weather during Languages Week in Term 2. Congratulations to the Year 12 students who were victorious on the day. Everyone displayed equal amounts of enthusiasm and fancy footwork on the pitch.
Interschool Athletics
Last week, on Wednesday 2 September, the students who placed highly in events at this year’s Athletics Carnival set their sights on the next level of competition: the Sunraysia Interschool Athletics Championships at the Aerodrome Ovals.
Congratulations to all our participating athletes on displaying excellent sportsmanship and representing St Joseph’s College with pride, especially to age group winners Jett Johnson (Year 11), Luca Dimasi (Year 10) and Mila Pascale (Year 9).
An impressive 20 students will advance to the LMR Athletics Championships next Thursday 17 September! Well done, everyone, and good luck.
Father’s Day Breakfast
The College’s annual Father’s Day Breakfast on Friday 4 September provided the perfect start to a weekend during which students and their families celebrated many kinds of fatherly figures. It was a fantastic morning, and we thank everyone who attended for including St Joseph’s College in their Father’s Day celebrations.
Our special guest speaker, AFL legend Kevin Sheedy AO, shared memories of his prestigious career and answered questions from our guests. Following the breakfast, he also delivered a special presentation to the Year 8 cohort in the Mercy Theatre.
Week 10
Term 3 will end on Friday 18 September, and we will dismiss all students at 2:30pm on that day. Come back to the blog next week for a wrap-up of events from the final week of an action-packed term.
In the spirit of hope and faith,
Mr Greg Kluske
